Undoubtedly, working life occupies an essential place in individuals' lives, both in quality and quantity. The working-age population wants to become a part of society by participating in and contributing to production. In the context of instrumentality, work also appears as a critical element of socialisation and belongingness. Quality of life, which includes work and non-work life, consists of a holistic approach covering all areas of life, according to the World Health Organization definition, but is mainly subjective and based on perceptions. Employees aim to keep their quality of life high by giving importance to their lives outside of work to avoid confusing the instruments with the goals. In this context, quality of life, which can be perceived and changed at different levels, may differ over time depending on people's choices. This qualitative study was conducted in a cross-sectional structure; interviews were conducted with employed people through convenience sampling, and open-ended questions were asked about their work-life balance. As part of a qualitative study on work-life balance, six employees from different sectors, seniority levels, and positions were interviewed to gain insight into their experiences regarding the interaction between work and private life. The study analysed their answers to open-ended questions such as the existence and nature of conflicts that arise from this interaction, how they manage the balance, and whether they have achieved it. The results showed that while employees try to maintain their work-life balance with difficulty, they develop and apply their methods. It has been determined for both genders that employees struggle to find balance to increase their quality of life. It is highlighted that the essential criteria in achieving this are labour peace, job security, social support and psychological satisfaction, career goals, seniority, demography, personality characteristics, stress, and time management styles also play a mediating role. It has been revealed that the importance attributed to family and time, mental calmness and rationality are the values they rely on to improve their quality of life.
