Istanbul Example in Smart Cities Regarding Transportation

Abstract

Short and medium-term action plans have been created in the strategy road map prepared together with many institutions and organizations for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) in our country. In these action plans, controlling the increase in emissions is a necessity for solving problems such as traffic accidents and traffic congestion. In this case, they were assigned to prepare the medium-term action plan and the national action plan of the Ministry of Communications, Transport and Maritime Affairs. Ministries organized workshops on this situation in 2012, and the results of these workshops were reflected in the Strategy document.

Intelligent transportation systems can be called systems that provide the necessary communication between the vehicle, the passenger and the road. This situation is called smart transportation systems such as infrared, mobile, location determination, wireless network systems, close-range processing technologies, safe driving detection sensors, and how, where and in what way such services will be implemented. A political roadmap must be determined for the implementation of smart transportation systems, and relevant training must be provided to relevant institutions and organizations. It is important that smart transportation systems are supported by legislation. It can be said that the smart transportation system is a policy that is safe for citizens, environmentally friendly with low emissions, and provides convenience in passenger and freight transportation and transportation. In general terms, Turkey and Istanbul have a vision of 2023 foresight at the World Smart City stand in transportation services and have set out their visionary goals to create an integrated transportation network and system as a general goal in the Strategy Document. In this case, it is aimed to ensure ease of transportation by creating smart transportation systems that are integrated in real time, efficient, safe, open to innovation, constantly updating themselves, and sensitive to the environment.
