Abstract

City is a living space where people exist. Beyond being just a piece of land, it is a place where a wide range of requests are met, from physical needs to social needs, from economic needs to psychological needs. People who survive in this space, have some rights while meeting these needs. These rights are expressed as "urban rights" in the literature. Urban rights can be defined as the citizens' ability to use their economic, social, cultural and political rights in the urban space, and providing the conditions and opportunities required by urban life. "Right to security" comes at the beginning of these rights. Although security comes after physical needs according to Maslow's hierarchy of needs, it can even get ahead of physical needs in some situations and times. For this reason, the right to security as a right to the city is one of the basic rights that citizens have / should have, and individuals living in the city should be able to do this safely while having relationships in urban life and meeting their needs.
In this context, the security right that the citizens have / should have was tried to be evaluated specifically for Kırıkkale in this study. In order to evaluate the issue more objectively, two separate sample groups were determined as residents of Kırıkkale and university students who came to the city for education, and survey questions were prepared to determine whether the right to security in Kırıkkale was met or not were directed to the sample groups. Reached sample size in the study consists of 1000 people which determined by convenience sampling method, but 974 questionnaires were taken into consideration. In the study consisting of two different sample groups, each group is represented by 487 people. As a result of the analysis of the data collected through the survey questions with SPSS, it was found that residents in Kırıkkale city experienced less anxiety than university students in urban areas; It has been observed that they prioritize infrastructure, unemployment, and environmental pollution issues regarding urban and personal life quality, compared to the right to security.
