THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN COMMUNICATION SKILLS AND HOPELESSNESS: THE CASE OF ISTANBUL UNIVERSITY-CERRAHPAŞA

While determining the differences between communication skills and hopelessness levels according to different variables of the individuals studying at the university constitutes the aim of this study; At the same time, determining the relationship between communication skills and hopelessness is the main goal. The sample of the study was composed of 153 students, 97 males (%63,4) and 56 females (%36,6), selected by random sampling method, studying at Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Sport Sciences. As a data collection tool, in addition to the personal information form, the “Communication Skills Assessment Scale (CSAS)” developed by Korkut (1996) and "Beck Hopelessness Scale (BHS)" developed by Beck et al. (1974) adapted to Turkish by Seber et al. (1993) was used. After the data showed normal distribution, parametric tests were used in the analysis. In the research findings, significant differences were found between communication skills of individuals by gender and age groups and between hopelessness States by age groups and economic well-being levels. As a result of the research, it was concluded that as individuals' communication skills increase, their hopelessness decreases.
