NEW ECONOMIC POLICY OF THE NATION-STATES ON THE AXIS OF GLOBALIZATION AND NEOLIBERALISM: AN EVALUATION ON TURKEY

Abstract

As the world has entered the twenty-first century, it has been faced with globalization, which is considered to have started long ago but has spread rapidly and with different understanding in this period. The most important factor that makes this period different is that capitalism, which could not find a solution to the crises of the 1970s worldwide, entered a new phase and emerged as neo-liberal policies. In short, it was seen that neo-liberalism, which is a system based on the freedom of flows of goods, capital, and services around the world, became widespread in the world with its implementation by Reagan in the USA and Thatcher in England at the end of the 1970s. Many other developed and underdeveloped countries have also had to take these policies into account with the effect of globalization. It is known that there are intense discussions on the political, social, and most importantly economic effects of this new process in the world on nation-states. It can be said that these discussions have increased and continued today. Accelerating with the effect of globalization, the affecting neoliberal policies to Turkey, as well as other nation-states, was an expected development. Because Turkey both lived political, social, and economic crisis intensely at the beginning of this process, and it could be said that maintained close relations with the Western world has led to the emergence of these developments in Turkey.
