Abstract

The 1960s are the years when a living creature was presented as an "animal" as an artistic object. The animal was enclosed in the gallery space or placed in the center of violence and death as the object of performance. New discussions have become necessary for the animal body, whose living or dead is presented to the audience. The viewer, who expects to see the unique work in the art gallery, suddenly becomes the person who causes the death of the animal. The artist, on the other hand, reminds once again the concept of the superiority of the human species as the person who prepares and presents the death of the living animal. From the perspective of the art audience; the animal lost its innocence, just like the artist, with the involvement of the animal in the process of being killed by suffering and the act of killing. With the witness of this environment in which the roles of art object, artist and spectator are completely reversed, the human species, the artist and the spectator, are now the ones who decide on life and death. The animal, which is transformed into an art object, is in the role of a victim. The works of the artists who use the living animal as an art object in their works, who present the acts such as causing the death of the animal and watching death as an art form, will be analyzed through the art object-gaze relationship
