CAUSALITY RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN YOUNG POPULATION (NEET) IN NEITHER EDUCATION NOR EMPLOYMENT AND ECONOMIC GROWTH: AN EMPIRICAL APPLICATION ON TURKEY

Abstract

Youth unemployment is among the most important problems faced by many countries. However, among the young population, young people who are neither in education, employment nor training (NEET) poses a more important problem than the youth unemployed.
This study has been prepared to investigate the relationship between economic growth and young people who are neither in education, employment nor training in Turkey. The causality relationship between the variables was investigated with the Toda Yamamoto test using the data for the period 1990-2020. The test results show that there is a unilateral causality relation between the NEET rate and economic growth. Accordingly, the NEET rate affects economic growth, but the change in economic growth figures does not affect the NEET rate
