Unemployment remains one of the acute problems of the world economy for many years. Job loss and absence of jobs cause the living standards of citizens to fall and cause social tension in a significant part of the population. This macroeconomic phenomenon emerges as a result of limited labor supply and competition in the market economy. Unemployment is understood as a complex socio-economic phenomenon where a part of the working age population can work for short periods and cannot find a job even though they want to work.
In our research, an analysis of unemployment in Russia during the COVID-19 period was made, and other problems that the labor market had to face were also examined. Statistical data on unemployment in Russia, its impact on the country's economy and the well-being of citizens have been analyzed. State support for small and medium-sized enterprises in Russia during the COVID-19 epidemic, as well as measures to reduce the unemployment rate, were examined. A brief analysis of the current situation of the labor market and the level of unemployment has been made.
