EXAMINATION OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN HEALTH EXPENDITURES AND ECONOMIC GROWTH FOR OECD COUNTRIES AND TURKEY

Abstract

Health expenditures are obtained by collecting all health-related goods and services. Within the scope of basic health indicators, there are variables such as death rates, birth rates, infant-maternal mortality rate, life expectancy at birth. In developed countries, the literature on improvements in the field of health is also a frequently discussed topic. However, it is very important to clarify the relationship between health and economic growth in developing countries. The subject of this study is the comparative analysis of the relations between basic health indicators and economic growth for OECD countries and Turkey. The period covered in the study is the period between 2011 and 2020. Due to the pandemic, the year 2021 was not included due to the lack of a data set for 2021. While health expenditures, birth rate and infant mortality rate variables are used for basic health indicators, Gross Domestic Product indicator, which is frequently used in the literature, is used for economic growth.
