Uzun Havas other than Bozlak Ezgical and Machamical Analysis: The Example of Kirikkale Region

Abstract

This research analyzes uzun havas, other than bozlak, in the Kırıkkale region in terms of melody and maqam. To identify these uzun havas, a literature review was conducted and local artists from the Kırıkkale region were interviewed. A total of 53 uzun havas were identified, recorded, and notated. The study determined the sound fields, melodic structures, and maqam characteristics of uzun havas. Based on the findings, it was concluded that, in the Kırıkkale region, melodic structures in uzun havas, other than bozlaks, have a calmer structure. There are no sound skips in the treble and pest regions, and hüseyni, hicaz, Kürdi, and uşşak maqams are used more frequently. Additionally, it is easier to perform with the baglama compared to bozlaks.
