Water is an important resource required for the survival of all living things over the years. The water, which has been displaced by various cycles for many years in our world, has recently started to become polluted and lose its potable (clean) feature. This is also caused by people's unconscious use of water.
With this study, a system was designed to increase students' awareness of water use and to ensure that they use water sparingly. The system is designed to be used in fountains in schools by integrating the contactless card logic used in public transportation vehicles with student cards in schools.
Arduino card, Jumper cables, DC 6v12 water pump, RFID card reader system, LCD screen (16x2), Mica container, Transparent hose, Breadboard, Tap and 220k ohm resistor were used in the construction of the model.
The predefined card to the person is read by the user to the card reader. “Welcome user name and amount of water remaining on the card” is written on the LCD screen. When the user takes his hand under the fountain, the sensor will detect the hand and make the water flow. The fountain will not flow when the user moves his hand away from the sensor distance; The fountain will start flowing again when the sensor hand is detected again. 15 seconds after you take your hand away from the sensor, the amount of water usage from the card will decrease.
According to the results obtained from the findings, the system works without any problems in accordance with its purpose. Thanks to its practical assembly, it can be easily installed and used in the sinks in schools. Due to its photocell feature, it provides a high degree of hygiene as there is no contact when opening or closing the faucet. Thanks to the photocell, it saves on the daily usage limit. There will be no problem of forgetting the tap open. Students will adapt to the daily usage limit and better understand the importance of water.
With the water savings it provides, it will increase the cost of the system in a very short time and will continue to provide savings and contributions in the following periods.
