Investigation of the Studies on Educational Games in Science Education

Abstract

In this study, it was aimed to examine the studies on educational games in science education from 2010 to 2022. The research was conducted using the document analysis method. Within the framework of the limitations of the research, a total of 50 national academic studies, 28 articles and 22 theses, were reached. The studies were analyzed by content analysis method. In this context, the studies were examined by creating themes such as type of publication, research origin, method, sample group and number, data collection tools, data analysis method, keywords, distribution of the unit and the acquisitions in it according to the grade levels, journals published, universities where the studies were conducted, variables of the study results. The data obtained were transferred to the NVivo program. When the data were analyzed, it was determined that experimental methods from quantitative approaches were mostly used in the studies. In addition, it was seen that tests were used as the most data collection technique and t-test was used as the data analysis method. As a result of the analysis, it was seen that most of the studies were conducted on the variable "academic achievement". Based on the results, suggestions such as designing group games for students who are shy and lack self-confidence and conducting studies to investigate their effects on the variables mentioned are presented to those concerned.
