Abstract

The Baroque period is a significant epoch in the history of music, encompassing a substantial period of musical evolution. Italy is one of the few countries in Europe to have left its artistic mark on this period, and is home to many important musical centres. There are four main centres in Italy. One of these important artistic centres is Bologna. The study includes information on the importance of the Bologna School and the institutions that brought this school to the fore, as well as the development of solo cello composition and performance in relation to these institutions. The second part contains a short biography of Domenico Gabrielli, and the next part is an analysis of Gabrielli's solo cello works, which are the subject of this article, and the musical forms of these works.
