This study investigates the teaching effectiveness of social studies material that will make learning easier and fun by emphasizing the importance of including play in the classroom. It is thought that if the teacher asks the children questions about the rules and process governing the game, and then encourages the children to connect through their own knowledge, it will make learning permanent.
The research was limited to secondary school 7th grade students. The study was carried out with secondary school students with different socio-economic and socio-cultural structures.
Experimental and control groups were formed by dividing 30 students with different socio-economic and socio-cultural backgrounds into two groups of 15 in the 2021-2022 academic year. In the research, activities were carried out with materials suitable for active learning to the experimental group, and to the control group with the traditional method, using plain lecture and question-answer technique.
In order to investigate the teaching effect of the study, a test consisting of 20 questions equivalent to each other and the content of the information in the game source was prepared. The permanence of the teaching was measured by applying these tests to the experimental and control groups.
Research students; It measured the success of the students in the learning by presentation and learning by the game environment. With the findings obtained, learning gains sustained over time, skill transfer to new problems, more accurate recall of acquired knowledge, deeper understanding of concepts, and better connections between concepts were achieved.
