Scrum and Shared Mental Models: Their Impact on Team Dynamics

Scrum provides an effective framework in agile software development processes, enabling teams to respond to rapidly changing requirements and deliver high-quality products. In this framework, tools such as sprints, daily meetings, and continuous feedback loops foster a strong collaboration and trust environment among team members, supporting alignment of information and expectations. Scrum aims not only at fulfilling individual tasks but also at developing a shared understanding among team members. This study, through a literature review, explores Scrum’s contributions to team dynamics and evaluates the impact of shared mental models on intra-team communication, decision-making processes, trust-building, and team cohesion. Shared mental models refer to the shared understanding and expectations that enable team members to work in harmony toward the same goal. These models contribute to reducing uncertainty within the team and accelerating work processes. The review findings indicate that the Scrum framework promotes collaboration, reduces uncertainty, and enhances team performance. The results highlight Scrum’s positive impact on team dynamics, especially in agile and dynamic work environments.
